Everyone wants to up-rank their website by adding some quality content but one major thing that they missed is to do Keyword research to make their website SEO friendly which in future will help them in rank higher among their competitors.

Keyword Research

In this topic we are going to cover some important points that will help us in Keyword Research and Planning:

  1. Make a list of important topics:

The first step towards building the website is to make it SEO friendly is to list up all the relevant topics which you will be updating on your website and start finding relevant keywords for each topic. In order to list up the important topic think like a customer and list the topic that your customer might search for.

  1. Fetch keywords related to each topic:

Now, this is tricky how I can decide which keyword to pick for a particular topic to rank high on SERP. However, the tools like Google keyword planner, checking Google most searched results can help you out.  To check Google most searched result hit your query and go to the bottom of the page to see Google suggestions which automatically gives you the idea the higher searched terms.

While framing the Long Tail Keywords you must answer the following question:

  • What is it
  • How is it useful
  • How you differentiate yourself from others
  • Why should I see this
  • What benefit will it provide to me, etc.
  1. Keep a mix of head terms and long tail keywords:
  • Differentiate between head terms and long tail keywords?

Let’s see the difference between head terms and long tail keywords with the help of the below example:

I want to search related to blogs. So, below are two search terms:

Long Tail: Best blog for Digital Marketing

Head Term: Blogging

So, if you see in the head term the concept behind your search is broad but in case of the long tail, the concept is narrow hence help Google to better understand you while ranking your page on SERP.

  1. Analyze your competitor website:

The approach while analyzing the competitor website should be like write down the keywords at which your competitor is ranking high (iwebchk can help you in this). Now here is your chance to work on those keywords and write more content related to that keywords to rank high but it is a little bit time-consuming. The reason behind it will be time-consuming because your competitor is already ranking high for those keywords for quite a long time why not to target those keywords more efficiently which your competitor might not have yet included.

The alternative could be that you figure out the important keywords that your competitor might be missing, Bingo: work on them writes content, promote them and you will be at the first page of Google shortly.

Sounds Easy, implement it.

  1. Set Target URL:

Now you the list of all the relevant keywords that you have fetched keeping your website topic name in mind and doing the keyword research manually on Google Keyword Planner and by analyzing your competitor website.

Trust me you done an awesome work!

Now let’s complete this task by assigning each keyword a specific Target URL.

Now, what is meant by the target URL?

The first step that you did during keyword research is that you pick topics based on your website on different pages. For example one of your web page that is talking about Difference between On-Page Optimization and Off-Page Optimization then the topic for that page would be its title i.e. Difference between On-Page Optimization and Off-Page Optimization and the keyword that you will be picking for that specific title would be revolving around it.

Let’s say the keyword that you picked is “X” and the target URL for that keyword would be the URL of that specific page talking about the difference between those techniques. All those similar keywords that are talking about that specific URL will be grouped together and form an attractive and meaningful Meta Title.

The practical training of On-Page SEO will clear this out.

Do you know the use of those keywords that you research and picked during Keyword analysis?

Here it is, those keywords will be basically used when you upload Meta Tags.
